    Richland High School

    Top-ranking students at Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools for the Class of 2021 were recognized. Scholars include: Kyle Settelmaier, valedictorian, BHS; Lizbeth Martinez, valedictorian, HHS; Timothy Sweet, valedictorian, RHS; Abigail Aswad, salutatorian, BHS; Cecilia Romero, salutatorian, HHS; and Grace Schneider, salutatorian, RHS.  

    Jackson Tucker, Haltom High School senior, was recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist. 

    Seven seniors were recognized as commended scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are: Fiona Rose Burleson, Ethan Montgomery Harrah, and Kyle Settelmaier, Birdville High School; and Miguel Aparicio, Grace Schneider, Marina Sorola Yoshida, and Timothy Sweet, Richland High School. 

    Four seniors were recognized as National Merit Hispanic Scholars. They are: Lizbeth Martinez and Cecilia Romero, Haltom High School; and Miguel Aparicio and Marina Sorola Yoshida, Richland High School. 

     

    2021 VASE Winners

    Nine students from Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools were recognized for their artwork advancing to the Texas Association of Art Educators’ Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). They are: Callum Aspaas, Idalyis Bunyavong, Alyssa Dotson (two works/one Gold Seal), Amire Gemeny, Colby Golightly, Lauren Ashley Moore, Sinali Premaratne, Emily Smay (Gold Seal), and Hannah Vice. 

  • Approved the donations from: 

    • Mr. and Mrs. David E. Smith to Smith Elementary; 
    • Upper Ninety [Soccer] Booster Club to Birdville High School girls soccer program; 
    • Birdville Education Foundation to Birdville ISD; and 
    • The Community Enrichment Center (CEC) to Counseling Services. 

    Approved the revision to Board Policy FDA (LOCAL) Admissions: Interdistrict Transfers and FDB (LOCAL) Admissions: Intradistrict Transfers and Classroom Assignments. This revision updates PÕ¾ÊÓƵ’s Open Enrollment program to provide for individual out-of-district pre-K students (Interdistrict) who meet eligibility requirements for pre-K to attend a Birdville campus where space is available. 

    Approved the 2021–22 Student Code of Conduct and Extracurricular Honor Code. 

    Approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tarrant County College for HB5 college preparatory courses. 

    Approved the agreement for use of the band trailer between the Haltom Area Band Friends Booster Club and Birdville ISD. 

    Approved the resolution regarding ESSER III and Board Policy CB (LOCAL) State and Federal Revenue Sources. 

    Approved the resolution delegating authority to the superintendent to select and approve vendors for plumbing repairs or replacement at Snow Heights Elementary. 

    Approved budget amendments. 

Public Hearing

  • A public hearing was conducted on the 2020–21 state compensatory funding. 

  • Approved the bid/purchase for: 

    • Buses from Longhorn Bus Sales; 
    • Workers Compensation insurance from Workers’ Compensation Solutions; 
    • Liability and auto insurance from Property Casualty Alliance of Texas; 
    • Advanced Placement Tests from College Board. 

    Approved the contracts with: 

    • Navigate360 for safety and security software; 
    • North American Solutions (NAS) for property insurance; and 
    • VLK Architects for design of a modular classroom complex at The Academy at Carrie F. Thomas. 

    Approved the bid/purchase for: (Monies for these projects will come from 2018 Bond funds.) 

    • Laptops from Delcom Group; and 
    • Student Chromebooks from Delcom Group. 

    Approved the interlocal agreement with Tarrant County for the asphaltic overlay of the North Oaks Middle School teacher parking lot. 

  • Thursday, June 24, 2021, Regular Board Meeting, open session at 7 p.m., Boardroom.  

  • THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on April 27 and took the following actions: 

    Named Dr. Gayle Stinson as the lone finalist for superintendent of schools for Birdville ISD. The Board will finalize the process after the required 21-day waiting period. Dr. Stinson is expected to begin in PÕ¾ÊÓƵ on July 1. 

    Approved a $57,000 starting teacher pay, a 3.3 percent raise for teachers, and a 3 percent   mid-point raise for other staff, plus adjustments as presented. 

     

    THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on May 11 and took the following actions: 

     Canvassed the votes of the May 1, 2021 trustee election.  

    Approved making both the wearing of face masks in all PÕ¾ÊÓƵ facilities and close contact quarantines optional effective June 1. 

     

    THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on May 18 and took the following actions: 

    Dr. Gayle Stinson

     

     

     

    Approved Dr. Gayle Stinson as superintendent of schools for Birdville ISD with a beginning duty date of July 1. 

     

     

    Administered the oath of office to Place 3 Trustee Brenda Sanders-Wise, Place 4 Trustee Matthew Womble, and Place 5 Trustee Richard Davis. 

    Elected the 2021–22 officers for the Board of Trustees. They are: Joe Tolbert, president; Kelvin Dilks, vice president; and Richard Davis, secretary.
