Summary of Actions

  • Approved the return to school plan and revising the 2020–21 school calendar based on the current Covid-19 pandemic. This change also adds 10 minutes to the school day to meet requirements from the Texas Education Agency.

    Approved Royals as the new mascot for Richland High School. A graphic designer will develop several samples of logos, uniforms, etc. for consideration. 

    Endorsed Julie Cole (HEB ISD) for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) board of directors, Region 11, Position C. 

    Approved revising the District’s substitute pay. 

    Approved the Kindergarten Reading Diagnostic Assessment Waiver. 

    Approved the changes in the dates of the PÕ¾ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees meetings in November and December 2020. The November and December meetings fall during holiday periods. The changes are: Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. 

    Approved the 2020–21 teacher (T-TESS) appraisal calendar. 

    Approved the 2020–21 principal and assistant principal (T-PESS) appraisal calendar. 

    Approved 2020–21 budget amendment for 2019–20 incomplete projects.

Bids Awarded

  • Approved the purchase of additional Chromebooks and hotspots through TEA’s Operation Connectivity program. 

Future Board Meeting

  • Thursday, August 27, 2020, Regular Board Meeting, open session at 7 p.m., Boardroom.  

Special Session

  • THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on July 2 and took the following action: 

    Authorized the Board President to select a community committee to assist the board of trustees as part of the process of selecting a new Richland High School mascot and related imagery.  

    Approved the timeline proposed by the Board subcommittee to remove and replace the Richland High School mascot name and related imagery. 

     

    THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on July 14 and took the following action: 

    Approved the community committee’s recommendation of three possible mascots for Richland High School. They are Rattlers, Royals and Raptors. The student body will cast their vote for one of the three mascot options to be considered by the Board for possible approval at the July 23 Board meeting.
