  • Steve Buyers

    Steve Buyers with Buyers Barricades was recognized for his support of Richland Middle School. Mr. Buyers recently sponsored two chartered buses so eighth-grade students could take a field trip to NASA in Houston. He also provided additional funding to help lower the cost of the trip for each student.

    Top-ranking students at Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools for the Class of 2018 were recognized. Scholars include: Carson Selby, valedictorian, BHS; Nischal Shrestha, valedictorian, HHS; Taylor Pipes, valedictorian, RHS; Kendyl Coston, salutatorian, BHS; Darlena Vu, salutatorian, HHS; and Carlyn Thomsen, salutatorian, RHS.

     

    Peyton Murrell, Richland High School senior, was recognized as a National Merit Finalist.

     

    Five seniors were recognized as commended scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are: Nicholas Powell and Jackson Boyd, Birdville High; Nischal Shrestha, Haltom High School; and Grit Saichua and Brianna Steelman, Richland High School.

     

    Six seniors were recognized as National Merit Hispanic Scholars. They are: Davis Diaz and Taylor Hamilton, Birdville High School; Iris Herrejon and Sorin Pena, Haltom High School; and David Serrato and Rachel Kelly, Richland High School.

     

    VASE Student Honorees  

    Fourty-three students from Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools were recognized for their artwork advancing to the Texas Association of Art Educators’ Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). They were: Connor Aultman, Tommy Bailes, Matthew Bourn, Idalyis Bunyavong, Gracie Canaan, Alex Cano, Tayler Challis, Caitlyn Chapman, Mackenzie Crosby, Chris DeWeese, Adamari Esparza, Alaa Fadlalla, Alexis Floyd, Samantha Garcia, Amira Gemeny, Colby Golightly, Kathleen Haklar, Willow Harrah, Haleigh Harris, Ivy Herrera, Emma Hilliard, Mary Ho, Aleyna Holcombe, Madison Johnson, Anna Jurica, Rowan Lambert, Karla Maldonado, Michelle Martinez, Kelly McKee, Sarah Melgoza, Kayla Meyers, Maryam Mohy, Kelly Nguyen, Beverly Ontiveros, Julie Pham, Sina Mae Riebartsch, Arisahi Rosas Robles, Paola Ruiz, Lasamy Sarawichitr, Alexandra Serraro, Lyncee Smith, Zimeng Tang and Savannah Thomas.

     PÕ¾ÊÓƵ's JROTC

    PÕ¾ÊÓƵ’s JROTC programs at Birdville, Haltom and Richland high schools were recognized for achieving the Honor Unit of Distinction designation. JROTC leaders and instructors are: Colonel Robert Fallis; Haltom High School instructors Sergeant Scott Murrah and Sergeant Ricardo Lopez; Richland High School instructors Captain Warren Harris and Chief Paul Dietrich; and Birdville High School instructors Captain George Jons and First Sergeant Roy Hunter.

    DECA Winners  

    Two Birdville High School students were recognized for being finalists at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Ryan Shannon and Emma Wright, seniors, placed as international finalists in the Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research event. 

     

     

     

Summary of Actions

  • Approved the donations from:

    • Liberty Carton to Francisco Elementary;
    • Hawk First Down Booster Club to Birdville High School football program;
    • Richland High School Choir Boosters to the Fine Arts Department;
    • Michael Hawkins to PÕ¾ÊÓƵ’s Automotive Technology program.

     

    Appointed Kris Drees to serve in Place 7 on the Board. Drees will serve in place of Taylor Anderson until the May 2019 election. Anderson resigned from the Board after moving outside the District.

     

    Administered the oath of office to Place 3 Trustee Whitney Harding, Place 4 Trustee Jack McCarty, Place 5 Trustee Richard Davis, and Place 7 Trustee Kris Drees.

     

    Elected the 2018–19 officers for the Board of Trustees. They are: Richard Davis, president; Ralph Kunkel, vice president; and Jack McCarty, secretary. 

     

    Approved the 2018–19 Student Code of Conduct.

     

    Approved the Texas Association of School Boards’ Policy Update 110. Update 110 reflects changes in the law based upon recent administrative law and court decisions. Revisions were made to policies:

    • BBB (LOCAL) Board Members: Elections [Revised]

     

    Approved a Dual Credit Memorandum of Understanding with the Tarrant County College District.

     

    Approved the House Bill 5 Instructional Agreement with the Tarrant County College District.

     

    Approved a Dual Credit Memorandum of Understanding with Texas Woman’s University.

     

    Approved a Natatorium Usage License Agreement with Grapevine Colleyville ISD.

     

    Approved TEA’s Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) application.

     

    Approved budget amendments.

     

    Approved the Mediated Settlement Agreement of EEOC claims.

     

Public Hearing

  • A public hearing was conducted to discuss the Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP).

Personnel

  • Announced 29 appointments, 33 resignations and 3 retirements.

     

    Approved the administrative appointments of:

  • Approved the bids/purchases for:

    • Dark Fiber installation by Superior Fiber & Data Services, Inc. from the District’s Data Center to The Hills Plaza;
    • Pilot classroom furniture updates for English, Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) from Indeco Sales;
    • Buses from Rush Truck Center;
    • Tractors from Zimmerer Kubota;
    • Large equipment for Child Nutrition from ISI Commercial Refrigeration, LLC;
    • Guided reading sets for printed Spanish translated leveled books from Learning A–Z, LLC;
    • Summer 2018 year-end projects from 308 Construction;
    • Platform lifts from Equipment Depot;
    • Gym floor resurfacing and refinishing at multiple locations from Hillyard; and
    • Locker removal for collaboration spaces at North Ridge and Smithfield middle schools from LMC, Inc.

     

    Approved the bid/purchase for: (Monies for this project will come from 2014 Bond funds.)

    • Summer 2018 Bond projects from Nouveau Construction and Technology Services.

     

    Approved software licenses renewals for:

    • Skyward annual district license from Skyward, Inc.;
    • Adobe software license renewal from GovConnection, Inc.;
    • Eduphoria! Suite and Lead4ward subscription renewal from Eduphoria!;
    • Reading A–Z district licenses from Learning A–Z, LLC;
    • STAR Universal Screener renewal from Renaissance Learning;
    • Reading Universal Screener renewal from Istation;
    • Writing software license renewal from Turnitin, LLC;
    • Math Facts renewal from Imagine Learning; and
    • Read 180 middle school and high school intervention renewal from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

     

    Approved the renewal contract for assessment and collection of ad valorem taxes by the Tarrant County Tax Office.

     

    Approved the purchase of the District’s property insurance through Scarbrough, Medlin & Associates, Inc.
